Two Northwoods school districts passed funding referendums yesterday by comfortable margins.

Voters in both the Rhinelander and Northland Pines School Districts passed referendums Tuesday, unofficially, by roughly 2-1 margins. In Rhinelander it was 4100 yes, 1958 no. Superintendent Kelli Jacobi thanked the voters and those who worked to pass the measure...

"....it's fabulous as the numbers come in, that you know, the community cares, they care about our kids..."

At Northland Pines in Eagle River, voters favored that referendum 1,875 to 1,029. Northland Pines District Administrator Mike Richie also thanked the voters, saying the vote means programs continue....

"...it's a strong statement from our community that supports our school district. I'm so happy for our kids and for what we'll be able to continue doing...as we look to move forward here. For the next three years we're going to be fiscally solvent and provide our great programming..."

Both Richie and Jacobi said work needs to be done to change the current school funding formula. Both referendum questions were for three years. The city of Rhinelander heavily favored the referendum, as did the city of Eagle River and nearby towns for Northland Pines. In Vilas county, the voter turnout was 26 percent.

In Tomahawk, unofficially, incumbent Mayor Clarann Stocker came in third in a four-way race. The top two candidates for the mayor's post are Steven Taskay and Don Nelson.

In Wausau, Robert Mielke and Jay Kronenwetter were the top two in a five-way race for Wausau mayor.

They will face each in April.

In Lincoln county, Tyler Mueller and Ray Bloomer advanced to fill one position on the county board.

The only statewide race saw incumbent Rebecca Bradley and JoAnne Kloppenburg will face each other for one seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
