NWLT Interstate Falls Dedication Set For Saturday

Northwoods Land Trust

The public is invited Saturday to a dedication that continues public access to Interstate Falls near Hurley.

The Northwoods Land Trust of Eagle River will dedicate the preservation of the land and falls at the town of Kimball Community Center. The Northwoods Land Trust will have their annual meeting at 11 a.m., and after lunch, will dedicate the spot at 1:00 p.m.

Executive Director Bryan Pierce says the public is invited to the meeting and dedication. The Trust closed on the deal last December. Pierce says they began working on the deal 8 years ago and protected the site in partnership with the town of Kimball...

"....and as part of that dedication, we're following through with our pledge as we worked with the town to gift the property we purchased to the town to be used in perpetuity as a scenic conservation area...."

The town of Kimball Community Center is one mile west of the intersection of US Highways 2 and 51 at Hurley.

Public access to the Interstate Falls was made possible by grants from five private family foundations and a matching grant from the Wisconsin Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund.

Interstate Falls is a popular 18-foot waterfall on the Montreal River which forms the border between Wisconsin and Michigan. The parcel purchased includes about 38 acres of scenic mixed forest and about 2,500 feet of natural shoreline frontage on the Montreal River, a Class II trout stream.
