RASTA Trails Closed To Fat Tire Bikes During Thaw

en.wikipedia.org

Outdoor enthusiasts will have to wait a bit longer to break out the fat tire bikes for a spring ride.

Fat tire bikes are an off-road bike with oversized tires making for increased traction on dirt and flotation on snow and water.

Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association President Richard Reidinger says they groom trails post rifle season in preparation for winter fat tire biking, but close during the spring thaw. He says riding on mucky trails isn’t good...

“…it creates lots of deep ruts and then after the ground dries out and hardens up it takes a lot of man hours to remove them, so the trails will be closed for at least a month, so no one can ride on them and run ‘em up and ruin them.”

Reidinger says the tentative date for the trails to open will be late April. He says people can check trail conditions on theRASTA website or Facebook page.
