Rhinelander At Heart Of Heavy Rainfall

www.publicdomainpictures.net

Rhinelander and the Northwoods in general were the centerpoint of unusually heavy rains that rumbled through the area Monday night. National Weather Service Green Bay meteorologist Mike Cellitti gives us the rain totals....

"....Rhinelander airport had 4.26 inches. Three miles west-northwest of Rhinelander had the highest amount, 4.54 inches. Tomahawk had 1.63 inches and by the Spirit Dam they had 2.42 inches...."

Cellitti says Rhinelander was at the core of the heaviest totals of rainfall....

".....this was the area with the most rain. It was somewhat of a narrow area. From Tomahawk and Rhinelander to near Iron Mountain...."

A strong low pressure system moved through the central and north central parts of the state. A strong feed of humid air from the Gulf of Mexico coupled with an approaching cold front triggered the heavy rains. One report from west of Rhinelander totaled 6 inches.
