Rhinelander Skateboard Park Getting Revived

en.wikipedia.org

A donation will enable the unused skate park behind the Rhinelander police and fire building to once again open.

Many years ago, a skateboard park was built just off the downtown. The park at Phillip and Alban streets has sat idle for a time. At last night's city council meeting, council member Sherri Belliveau said  a citizen came forward with a donation...

"....Mr. Ed Bauer came to the Parks committee and he purchased at a very discounted price some outdoor skateboard equipment that he offered to donate to the city and we accepted his offer...."
Belliveau says the ideal spot for the facility is at West Park where the BMX track is located. She said it could cost up to $10,000 to put a new facility there, but the former site could be spruced up...

"....it's not the ideal situation at this time. We do plan on having it resurfaced, eventually we'd like to move it to West Park, but it is a space available at this time and we'll be able to utilize that equipment in the next year rather than five to ten years down the road...."

Belliveau says they are seeking $2,000 in private donations to resurface the Alban and Phillip facility.

The council also approved a naming contest for the new Boyce Drive Boat Landing. Entries are due by October 17 with prizes for the winner. More information is at Rhinelander City Hall.
