Rhinelander High School finished in the top four in a statewide quizbowl that focused on financial literacy.
Coach Patrick Kubeny is a business education teacher at RHS. He says he’s very pleased about this year’s results from the Finance and Investment Challenge Bowl.
“If someone would have told me before departing that we were going to be in the Final Four – it’s kind of like the Badgers this year, you know? You certainly always want to go as far as you can, but when you look back on how far you did go, that’s what I’m going to hang my hat on, and the kids as well. So we’re very happy.”
It’s the best finish so far for Rhinelander, which has only been competing for a few years.
Rhinelander’s four person team won the regional bowl in February and advanced to the state competition in Milwaukee, where it placed fourth.
Last year Kubeny started the Rhinelander regional chapter of the quizbowl. Until then the Rhinelander team competed in Wausau’s chapter.
Kubeny says he hopes more schools from the Northwoods will join the competition.
