RIPCO Hosts Annual Effort to Protect Community from Identity Theft

Community members will have an opportunity to support the mission of the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry while reducing their chance of identity theft. RIPCO Community Credit Union will be hosting its fourth annual “Shred Event” Saturday. People can bring documents such as financial and credit card statements and payroll stubs to shred at no cost. Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Diane Sowinski says it’s an easy and fast way to protect your financial standing.

“The more information like that a crook could get a hold of the more possibility there is that they could assume that person’s identity and open new credit in their name or somehow mess up their entire financial situation.”

Sowinski says identity theft is more common than people think, and can happen to anyone, anywhere.

Donations for the food pantry are encouraged when attending the event. The event will be held at the RIPCO Credit Union in Rhinelander on September 12 from 9 to noon
