Scammers Return To Northwoods

Vilas County Sheriff Joe Fath says be careful when you get your Publisher's Clearinghouse notifications. He says scams are starting to appear as the legitimate offers are also being presented.

Fath says the bottom line is you shouldn't have to pay money upfront to get into the contest or win...

"...(the report) came in from a complaintent who mailed $200 to win a prize...then after she had wired the money, they contacted her to attempt to get another $600 from the victim."

The company has posted a warning detailing the legitimate offer from the scammers. They say they never ask for money via a money card. If you're the major winner, Publisher's Clearninghouse will come to your door and will not notify you via email.

Contact your local law enforcement agency if you have questions.
