Semi-annual "Point In Time" Count Completed In Northwoods

Volunteers were out looking until the wee hours of Thursday morning(7/28) for people without adequate shelter in the Northwoods. Twice each year the Northern Wisconsin Initiative to Stop Homelessness, or N*WISH, Continuum of Care, go to places to see if people needed shelter.

Lori Hallas of Rhinelander gives us the results...

"So far the reports indicate no one last night was found on the street last night, which, you know is a good thing. We had teams going out in covering areas in Forest, Langlade, Oneida and Vilas counties in search of people who are homeless...."

Hallas says anyone who needs help can stop by Forward Service Corporation at the Northern Advantage Job Center in Rhinelander....

"They can come to the Job Center and find out what the resources are. They can call Penny or myself. There are agencies like NEWCAP that would do intake as well. There are many agencies you can go to. You can go to shelters. There's no wrong door when you are looking for services for the homeless...."

Hallas says they do counts in January and July. She says counts from area homeless shelters are kept and sent to the state of Wisconsin. She says counts provide data for funding efforts.
