Some Oneida Co. Snowmobile Trails To Open 1/2/2016

A limited number of Oneida county state-funded snowmobile trails will open for the season this Saturday morning.

Officials say several trails will remain closed until further notice, including all Three Lakes trails, all Hodag/Rhinelander area trails, portions of the Willow region,and portions of the Minocqua Forest Riders Area. All lake trails in Oneida County remain closed and will stay that way until a local snowmobile club marks the lake trail as safe. Trails remain in rough condition. Vilas county trails opened this week.

TO: News Media (And Other Interested Persons) FROM: Oneida County Recreation Coordinator RE: Official Opening - Oneida County Snowmobile Trail System.

With the exception of the trail closures listed below, the majority of the Oneida County State Funded Snowmobile Trail System (as administered by the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Outdoor Recreation Department) will officially open for the 2015-2016 winter season at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016.

The Following Oneida County Trails will remain closed until further notice.

All Three Lakes Area trails remain closed. All Hodag / Rhinelander Area trails remain closed. Willow Region Area: The segment of Trail 5 from Lincoln/Oneida County Line north to the intersection of Trails 5 and 8. Minocqua Forest Riders Area Trail 5 remains closed from Trail Intersection Number (TIN)-618 to TIN-658 Trail 5A remains closed from TIN-651 to TIN-654 Trail 5B remains closed from TIN-656 to TIN-662 Trail 9 remains closed from TIN-604 to TIN-605 (trail to the Black Bear Bar)

All lake trails in Oneida County remain closed and are considered unsafe until they have been clearly marked by a local snowmobile club. These trails will remain closed until conditions permit. Oneida County assumes no liability for the safety of lake trails.

As always, the Oneida County Forestry, Land, & Outdoor Recreation Department recommends staying on clearly marked trails. Stay off of the lakes until they are clearly marked. Always exercise caution when riding a snowmobile. The trails are in rough, early season condition.
