State Offers Parcel Near Prairie River For Sale

Wisconsin DNR

A parcel near the Prairie River in Lincoln county is among 81 parcels being put up for public auction now through mid-September. The legislature has ordered the DNR sell off state parcels that don't meet planned use. In February of this year the Natural Resources Board ordered the next round of sales.

The DNR's Kaylin Helm says the approximately 40 acre parcel is in the town of Merrill.

"....in June of 2014, the Natural Resources Board approved 22 parcels for sale with our land sales program. This was one of those parcels. This was already offered for sale(and had no buyers) on the Wisconsin Surplus site. Since there were no bidders, it's being resubmitted at a 20% reduced rate...."

The land for sale is near the Prairie River at northwest corner of West Prairie Rd. and Prairie Rd. intersection in the town of Merrill as the DNR's Kaylin Helm describes...

"...we are offering 40 acres in Lincoln county. This parcel was purchased in 2011 as part of a 100 acre purchase to the Prairie River. At the time of acquisition, the Natural Resources Board directed the (DNR) sell 45 acres of that purchase because it was productive agriculture land...."

Helm says the part of the the northern boundary line touching the Prairie River will have a deed restriction preventing development within 300 feet of to protect the watershed. The asking price is $44,800. Parcels are also available in Florence and four other counties. The property can be viewed at Wisconsin Surplus.com with the parcel number 16612-70.
