Statewide Precautions Emphasized as Cucumber Recall Continues

commons.wikimedia.org

Extra precautions are being advised by The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture as cucumbers from Andrew and Williamson Produce Company are still under a nationwide recall. Oneida County Health Department Sanitarian Jody McKinney says anyone with cucumbers from the produce company should throw them away.

“…Wisconsin is not listed directly in the states receiving the produce. Even though these cucumbers were sent to distributions in Minnesota or Illinois, therefore the cucumbers could make it over into Wisconsin to our various establishments, both retail and restaurants.”

Salmonella can cause serious and fatal infections. McKinney says nearly 30 states were affected by the outbreak, and says washing the skin isn’t enough to rid the cucumbers of salmonella.

To track the recall, visit the CDC and the FDA’s websites at cdc.gov or fda.gov
