Storm Season Means There's A Need For Spotters

en.wikipedia.org

Weather officials are saying there could be more storms this summer than previous years and both Oneida and Vilas counties want to train more storm spotters.

The next classes to train to be a spotter take place next next week.

Registrants will learn about cloud formations, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and  flash flooding. Classes will last up  to 2 hours. There is no charge.

Jim Galloway from Vilas County Emergency Management says in this region trained storm spotters are critical for safety....

".....because of the lack of direct radar coverage in Vilas and northern Oneida counties, storm spotter information is critical to NOAA for determining the strengths and potential effects of a storm...."

The first class is Tuesday, June 3 at the Lincoln town hall on Sundstein Road near Eagle River beginning at 6:00 p.m.. A  class will be held at the Oneida County Law Enforcement Center on June 4 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

For more information, contact county emergency management in Vilas or Oneida counties.
