Sugar Camp Home Destroyed By Blast

No one was injured, but a home north of Rhinelander was destroyed early Friday.

The Sheriff's office reports a 9-1-1-caller reported the blast at 4:46 a.m. at 5078 Sand Lake Road in the town of Sugar Camp.

When emergency crews arrived, they found the seasonal home wrecked, and a small fire in the basement. No one was home at the time of the explosion but five other homes in the vicinity were damaged.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Oneida County Emergency Management, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Public Service, Oneida County Medic 1 and Medic 11, Sugar Camp Fire Department, Three Lakes Fire Department, and Newbold Fire Department.

The explosion remains under investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and the Division of Criminal Investigations-Office of State Fire Marshall.
