Teams Needed For September Alzheimer's Walk

en.wikipedia.org

Officials say Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s 5 million Americans to as many as 16 million by 2050.

Those figures are the backdrop as a local chapter is asking for teams to gather and participate in this fall's Walk to End Alzheimer's in Rhinelander.

Alzheimer's Association local Outreach Specialist Julie St. Pierre says with the walk scheduled for September 24, this is the time to organize...

".....now is the time for teams to form and recruit their walkers. They're beginning the process of soliciting funds from friends and family members. We also have a number of teams that host fundraisers in the community as a way of raising money. There are a lot of ways to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association..."

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

St. Pierre says last year's walk here was one of the best they've had....

".....last year we had 35 teams and just about 400 walkers participated in the walk. The walk did amazing. Last year we raised $73,000 in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease...."
