VA partners with Walgreens to give veterans flu shots

The Veterans Affairs Office has partnered with Walgreens for a third year to bring free flu shots to area veterans. That’s according to Iron Mountain’s Oscar G. Johnson Public Affairs Officer Brad Nelson.

Nelson says veterans who choose to get their flu shots at Walgreens don’t have to worry about keeping track of their medical records. He says their records will automatically be updated and the only thing they’ll need is a VA identification card to prove they’re enrolled in the VA health care system.

“…we just really encourage veterans to get their flu shots, especially if the population is very young. When we talk about our population, it is good to protect themselves as well as their family members. The flu has started up.”

Nelson says Walgreens accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare.

The Rhinelander VA Clinic also has a free walk-in flu shot clinic available to vets. The clinic offers flu shots from 1 to 4 every Friday starting October 28 to November 25. Shots will not be available on Veteran’s Day.

For more information visit publichealth.va.gov or visit the Iron Mountain VA’s website to find a walk-in clinic.
