Value Of Forest Land To Economy Focus Of Meeting

commons.wikimedia.org

The value of the forests as a sustainable economic driver is the focus of the next Iron County Citizens Forum on Monday.

Spokesperson Terry Daulton  says northern Wisconsin and the U.P. are often said to be undeveloped and impoverished. But she says the forum will focus on how the woods are a sustainable economic driver.

She says they've been doing a series on regional economic development and she says  there are many aspects of the woods that are overlooked...

"....the amount of county forests, federal lands and private lands in managed forest it would be really good to focus on some of the economic inputs and advantages we have by having this forested land at our fingertips...."

County Forest Administrator Eric Peterson and  Trail Coordinator Tara Krall will share economic and  recreational data from county lands. A third speaker is Dan Corullo from Action Floor in Mercer. Daulton says Action Floor makes gym floors that are shipped all over the world. She says they will have a tour at 1 p.m. at Action Floor and registration is suggested.

The Citizens Forum meeting happens at 7:00 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center. If you want more information call Daulton at 715-476-3530.
