Van Stippen Challenges Sen. Tiffany's "Homeonwers Bill Of Rights"

Van Stippen campaign

The Democratic challenger to State Senator Tom Tiffany(12th-Hazelhurst)  says Tiffany's recent portrayal of a portion of the  proposed "Homeowner's Bill of Rights" is off the mark.

Bryan Van Stippen of Deerbrook says one provision of the proposal cited a lake association trying to take pictures of invasive species on private land. Van Stippen says that isn't accurate, saying after he checked it, discovered it was a comprehensive plan between the Lac du Flambeau tribe and the town of Lac du Flambeau to do a comprehensive invasive species study. He disputed Tiffany's portrayal of that section..

"....all I had to do is make a phone call to find out what that comprehensive plan was going to do, so for Senator Tiffany to come forward and say here's an association that going to impede on your private landowner rights is inaccurate and how you can make a statement like that, especially being an elected official...."

Tiffany says among the ten points of his proposal are controlling property taxes, eminent domain reform, broadband access, energy security and affordability, and regulatory takings of property. Tiffany cited one example from the Northwoods where he said a lakes association has proposed private property sweeps in order to address aquatic invasives. Tiffany said that sounded to him as chilling to propecting property rights.
