Vilas Salvation Army Sets Ambitious Goal

www.babble.com

An ambitious goal has been set for the Salvation Army bell ringers in Vilas county this holiday season.
Committee co-chair Christine Caz says  a successful year last year led to a higher goal...

"...we have a very ambitious goal. Last year it was $44,000 and we did meet that goal. This we thought, 'why not?' and shoot for the sky and stretch goals, so we set ($50,000). ...86 cents of every dollar that someone gives stay right here in Vilas county...."

Caz says requests for help have dramatically risen. The money from the Red Kettle campaigns helps provide food for families, assists seniors with utilities, rent, prescription drugs and shelter, and provides basics for people following an emergency such as a fire. Caz says bell ringer volunteers are always needed. Another part of assistance is the Holiday Toy Drive. Donation boxes are located at various businesses in the area.

Caz says a key element of their success are volunteers...

"...we do have some openings left at some of our locations. We would love to have more volunteers on our steering committee. We meet every Friday morning at 9 o'clock at Eagle Roasters. We have a lovely time, we have a lovely group of people. We encourage anyone to join...."

She says the Vilas Salvation Army group meets each Friday at 9:00 a.m. at Eagle Roasters in Eagle River if you wish to volunteer or learn more. The ringing sites are at Trig's, Pick 'n Save and Nelson's Ace Hardware
