The UW-Madison Rhinelander Agricultural Research Station, the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association and Trigs stores in cooperation with area food pantries are hosting an event Friday and they need the public's help.

" A Night on the Farm" helps fight local hunger says Rhinelander Area Food Pantry Executive Director Guy Hansen. The public is invited to pick potatoes at the Ag Station. Hanson says the majority of potatoes go to help local food pantries..

"....we're inviting people to come to the Ag Research Station out on county trunk "C" east of town to pick potatoes for our pantry and pantries in the area. People show up about 3:30 p.m. and help us pick potatoes. The staff will raise the potatoes from the earth. They're sitting on top of the ground. You can bring a pail or we provide pails and will fill the big one-ton containers on top of the wagons..."

The potatoes for the pantries are stored at the Ag station until the food pantries need them. Hansen says if you bring a small container, you can take a few potatoes home. Hansen says the public's help is needed to make sure the pantries get the potatoes for the hungry. Light refreshments, including roast potatoes, will be served.

The Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association will have the Wisconsin Spudmobile on site, which is an educational and informational display about the state's tuber crop.

The station is 6.5 miles east of Rhinelander on County Highway "C", and watch for signs.
