A Woodruff-based conservation warden has been presented an award for his work in the Northwoods.
The state Natural Resources Board presented Warden Supervisor Dave Walz with the Shikar Safari Club Internatinal Wildlife Officer of the Year. The annual award honors the officer whose efforts during the previous year helped preserve and protect wildlife, particularly in the enforcement of conservation laws.
Walz supervises the wardens in Forest, Oneida and Vilas counties, including the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. Walz told the state board he was honored...
"....what an honor to receive this award from such a prestigious organization. It's not about me....it's all about all the staff that helped me and worked with me to accomplish our job..."
The Club gives awards in all 50 American states and 10 Canadian provinces and territories. The club's foundation supports conservation and education. Walz was also credited for working collaboratively with the Great Lakes Indian Fish & Wildlife Commission and the Lac du Flambeau and Mole Lake tribes.
