Wisconsin Vietnam Veterans Exhibit Arriving In July

Wikimedia Commons

A traveling exhibition honoring Vietnam War veterans from Wisconsin will be in the Northwoods in July.

The exhibition "Wisconsin Remembers: A Face for Every Name" honors the 1,161 Wisconsin veterans on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

An exhibit host is the GFWC- Rhinelander Women's Club. Spokesperson Sue Bessert says much research went into the making of this exhibit...

"....what's unique is that it's a photograph. A lot of work was put into trying to get an actual photo of each of the servicemen. Once we see these names, it's going to be pretty amazing..."

Bessert says their club was interested in bringing the exhibit to the Northwoods and got approval....

"...we were able to bring the exhibit here for the full month of July. It's going to debut on July 4 here in Rhinelander the day of the parade. It's going to be held at ArtStart which is just a block off the parade route. It will be at ArtStart July 4-6 during their hours 11-5. Then it's going to travel to other communities. So Wabeno will have it as well as Antigo, Tomahawk and Crandon..."

It opens in Wabeno on July 8, Antigo July 11, Tomahawk on July 22, and Crandon July 29.

Several veterans organizations and offices also helped bring the exhibit to the Northwoods. Wisconsin Remembers is a project of Wisconsin Public Radio and Television and the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.

A web page dedicated to the exhibit is on Wisconsin Public Radio'swebsite.

Wisconsin was the fifth state to find a photo for every resident listed on the Vietnam Wall.
