Woman Charged in 2003 Drowning Death Of Uncle

Oneida County Sheriff's Department

A woman attacked by her former husband on Sutliff Avenue in Rhinelander has now been charged as party to the death of her uncle in 2003.

Latoya Wolf made an initial appearance in court Tuesday.

In 2003, Kenneth Wells' body was found in the the Wisconsin River. Wells death was labeled as a drowning and the manner of death undetermined.

But as Rhinelander Police Chief Mike Steffes explains, new information has come forward.

“In January of 2014 Detective Chiamulera reopened the investigation and through many different interviews and lengthy hours of investigative activity, he was able to determine that Latoya Wolf was a party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide of Kenneth Wells.”

Last Friday,  police arrested Latoya Wolf, now of Tomahawk, and charged her with  party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide in Wells death.

Court documents indicate Latoya Wolf told investigators her husband, Shannon Wolf, allegedly got into a dispute with Wells, Latoya Wolf's uncle. She alleges Wolf and two other men forced Wells under the Davenport Street bridge. A plastic bag was allegedly placed over his head. After he stopped breathing, he was pushed into the river.

In 2012, Shannon Wolf, Latoya Wolf's estranged husband, was arrested on Sutliff Avenue in Rhinelander after he stopped a car Latoya Wolf was in and confronted her.
He pled guilty in May of 2013  to a felony charge of mayhem and was sentenced to 12 years in prison with 12 years of extended supervision.

Rhinelander Police are asking anyone with information about Wells death to contact them as the investigation is ongoing.
