With the Vintage Race weekend behind them, the Amsoil World Championship Snowmobile Derby is set for next weekend in Eagle River.

Derby Track owner Chuck Decker says the weather is not a problem to make conditions right for the the latest race....

"....we make our own snow for the Sno Cross race and obviously the oval sleds race on glare ice. As long as we temperatures conducive to watering the track making ice and snow guns running. It's usually not an issue for us. 53 years of racing and they've never canceled one...."

Decker says the best racers come from many different places...

"......if you're a snowmobile driver, it's the one place you have to be. It's the one race you want to win. Our drivers come from around the United States, literally coast-to-coast and most provinces of Canada are represented here, we even get racers from Sweden and Finland...."

The event brings upwards of 20,000 visitors to Eagle River to see the racing. The first race was held February 9, 1964 on Dollar Lake near Eagle River.
