Willie Dixon was one of the most prolific blues songwriters of all time, having penned over 500 songs in his career. Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters recorded many of them, and several of Willie's songs have been transformed into rock and roll classics by artists such as Led Zeppelin, the Doors, and Cream.

On Friday March 7th, from 6-9 pm, Blues Friday host Dale Zimmerman presents “The Songs of Willie Dixon.” Tune in and enjoy rare and brilliant performances of some of the best blues music ever written.

Paul Kage Scores The Kayak

Paul Kage, avid kayaker and cyclist of Wausau, is the winner of the Dagger Zydeco Kayak offered in WXPR’s Fall Drawing. Our thanks to Mitch Mode of  Mel’s Trading Post for donating this enticing grand prize.

Paul called in his pledge on late Blues Friday. He was cycling home from second-shift work thinking the show might end before he arrived home. So he stopped in a park and made the winning pledge from his cell phone.

WXPR’s Annual Fall Concert and Auction will be held Sunday, November 3rd at Holiday Acres Resort in Rhinelander.

Items from area merchants and galleries will be on display starting at 3:00 pm. At 4:00 pm the live auction and music with Jazz violinist Randy Sabien begins.

Direct from Memphis, Eric Scrappie Hughes or the "Boss of Beale Street" as he's known, brought his deep river blues to the Northwoods August 24th. Floating down the Wisconsin River took on a real Delta feel with Scrappie's authentic delivery of original compositions and blues classics.

From "The Ballad of Weevil Point Willie" to "Tested Positive for the Blues," Scrappie's musical storytelling and artistry are a pleasure to share with WXPR listeners on Blues Friday and live at the WXPR Blues Cruise.
