A Presque Isle resident has called upon others to help stop a possible change in Vilas county ATV policy.
In 2004, voters in Vilas county passed by a 63 to 37 percent margin an advisory referendum not to allow ATV's on county roads and property. The county board followed up with a resolution affirming the advisory referendum.
The Nokomis ATV Club is asking for an ATV/UTV trail to be allowed across the southeast portion of the Woodboro Lakes Wildlife Area off Highway "K" west of Rhinelander. The DNR is holding an open house to get public input on the proposed trail.

Whether to allow ATV's in Three Lakes to use busy county road "A" will return to a county committee after they decided they needed to find out more information.
The town board in Three Lakes approved the use of town roads. Other lesser-traveled Oneida county roads are open to ATV use, but Highway Commissioner Freeman Bennett says he has concerns about allowing ATV's on "A". The committee has given Bennett the authority to regulate whether county roads should be open to ATV's, but he says the county "A" corridor between Sugar Camp and Three Lakes is different..
