Parents can make a little more money this year, and their kids can still eat for free at school. 

Updated federal income guidelines allow a family of four, for example, to earn about $400 more each year, and still qualify for the free lunch and breakfast program. 

Rhinelander school district Food Service Director Pat Karaba says she hopes the stigma of the program is disappearing.

A new community breakfast has its second installment Wednesday.  A pair of business owners is organizing a free breakfast once a month at the VFW in Rhinelander.

Organizer Nancy Smith says the idea for Coffee and Company began last fall. 

“It was last October.  We started thinking – we saw the people roaming the streets in downtown Rhinelander, and the first thing it started as just coffee and a sweet roll.”
